Looks like I won’t have to be replacing that clutch after all!
Just kidding, I was able to get her out this afternoon. Based on an idea from themanwiththesauce I screwed two of the bottom bolts back in. I lowered the trans nearly to the driveway so that I could get the wrench on without a swivel and with minimal extensions and gave her a rip. Probably gonna do the motor mounts while everything is off.
Surprising how much heavier the transfer case is than the transmission.

Motor mounts are dirt cheap. I was surprised how easy they were too on my (former) 99 XJ

They’re $50-60 a piece on this thing. Can’t find any write ups for a swap on the 3.8L, so hopefully there’s nothing whacky about it.

Its funny how sometimes putting it back together more, helps you pull it back apart.

Yeah, this thing was a real PITA . Stark different between modern and old vehicles. There’s a ‘66 GMC sitting next to the Jeep which took thirty minutes to pull the trans.

Might have my Jersey-boy father help me put it back in. He last swapped a clutch in 1978 on his El Camino in Matawan.
